Hi, I’m Jennifer.
I’m the maker behind Sage Folk, sewing everything from my little studio in Afton, Virginia, tucked away in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains near Shenandoah National Park.
For years, I’ve wanted to start a sewing business. I’ve always been the person making my own purses, computer bags, makeup bags… honestly, if I needed a bag, I usually just made it.
The funny thing is, everywhere I’d go someone would stop me and ask where I bought it. I’d tell them I made it, and they’d almost always say, “Wait…you made that? Do you sell them??”
After hearing that for years, I finally realized maybe I should actually start selling them.
So here we are.
Every piece I make is one of a kind. I mix thrifted fabrics, vintage textiles, upholstery remnants, and new fabrics together to create patchwork bags and home goods that feel collected over time instead of mass-produced. I love rescuing beautiful fabrics that still have so much life left in them and turning them into something people will actually use every day.
Most of what I make is for local farmers markets and small shops here in Virginia, but I wanted a place where anyone could see what I’m creating and shop online if something catches their eye.
Why “Sage Folk”?
The name is incredibly personal to me.
Sage was my Alaskan Malamute—my best friend, my familiar, my shadow. Losing him was the hardest thing I’ve ever been through, and naming this business after him felt like the perfect way to keep a little piece of him with me every day.
Folk comes from everything else I love—folk art, bluegrass, handmade traditions, patchwork quilts, slow living, old things with stories, and my Native American ancestry. It just felt like the perfect word for the style I’ve always been drawn to.
Together, Sage Folk feels like home.
When I’m not sewing, I also own two other creative businesses.
The Artful Sanctuary is my interior design studio, where I help people create homes that feel peaceful, personal, and beautiful.
I’ve also spent the last ten years running Coral Antler, where I design book covers, oracle decks, journals, and branding for authors and creatives around the world.
Apparently I just can’t stop making things.
If you’d like to follow along behind the scenes, I’m documenting the journey over on YouTube—sharing sewing projects, fabric hunting, preparing for farmers markets, and everything that goes into building Sage Folk from the ground up.
Thanks so much for stopping by.
I’m really glad you’re here.
